Ever notice what happens the minute you mention the word “game” at a shower? A number of people groan and before you know it the room is empty. The trouble is that many of your guests have played the same games before. But because such a diverse group of people is often invited to a shower, an activity can play an important part in helping people get to know each other. There are several ways to handle a words of wisdom journal where guests share their advice on marriage or babies. My least favorite is keeping it a surprise. Give your guests a chance to prepare their thoughts by sending a simple note in the invitation. Wisdom comes in all shapes and sizes, so encourage them to include poems, anecdotes, serious comments and humor. Another way to handle the journal entries is to send everyone a blank piece of paper to fill out and bring to the shower for you to later paste into a scrapbook. Not everyone will do this, so plan to have extra blank paper at the event.
